VOLVO Eco Operator Training, St-Bruno, QC
Strongco is proud to promote a culture of leadership, accountability and participation in matters pertaining to preserving the environment. This core value extends to our customers and OEM partners, as we action ways to minimize our carbon footprint, while increasing productivity and efficiency, reducing machine wear-and-tear, and enhancing employee well-being.
Realizing that the machine operator can make a significant contribution to positive change, Yannick Montagano, Strongco’s Regional Vice President in Quebec approached Construction DJL, a division of Eurovia, a VOLVO national account, to participate in an advanced, three day eco driver training program sponsored by VOLVO CE. The session took place at one of Construction DJL’s own quarries in St-Bruno, under conditions set up to replicate the actual working operations of 3 customer-owned wheel loaders. Instructors Pascal Benoit Mouton and David Forget, pictured above, travelled from Lyon, France to observe all eight Construction DJL operators in action before and after the theoretical and practical training components.
The results were clear. By adopting only a few simple techniques, such as proper machine settings, lower engine speeds, and optimal tire pressure, all three loaders recorded a 6-7% reduction in fuel consumption. In fact, the outcome was so successful that Strongco and Eurovia plan to roll-out the program at other sites in the future.
“It’s about changing behaviours,” said Yannick Montagano. “The course is fundamental in Strongco’s strategy to help customers save costs, maintain operational effectiveness and gain a competitive advantage using eco-friendly solutions.”
Christian Fortin, Equipment Manager at Eurovia, has seen the value in the training first-hand: “We all have a responsibility to protect the environment – and Eurovia is a company that places importance on and invests heavily in sustainable operations worldwide. It’s also important to protect our machinery from major repair costs. The support of Strongco and the VOLVO Eco Operator Program makes it possible for us to fulfil both of these mandates.”
